Quote Challenge {Day 2}

Howdy, good readers! I’m back with day 2 of The Quote Challenge (given me by Shoulda Brought a Book—is that not an awesome blog name?). Again, the rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you (check)
  • Nominate 3 new bloggers every day (so far, so good).
  • Post a new quote everyday for 3 consecutive days (ditto).

I must say, one of the first things I thought when I woke up today was, I get to pick another quote to post today! This tag makes me seriously happy. ;D Without further ado, here’s today’s:

throwselfwave2

“He gave me no assurance. No fixed land. Always one must throw oneself into the wave.”

~ C. S. Lewis, Perelandra

A character in Perelandra, the second book of C. S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy, says this, and the first time I read it, I felt like a real wave had crashed down on me. The character, the king of the planet Venus, is talking about Maledil—in our language, God.

I guess it hit me so hard because I struggle so much with trusting God. I want to know what my future will look like. I want to know all the details before I dive into something. But I can’t always have that. In fact, I never have that.

God doesn’t promise everything will work out—no assurance. God doesn’t tell us what’s going to happen—no fixed land. He demands that we trust Him anyway—throw oneself into the wave.

So you throw yourself into the wave, and instead of drowning it carries you to new shores, shores that are rockier and brighter than anything you feared or dreamed. And you find that He is with you as you dive and swim and land, safe at shore.

Because that is an assurance He does give us: I will never leave you nor forsake you.

Throw yourself into the wave today and forever.

Can’t forget the tag-ees! (Taggees? Spellcheck says it isn’t word, but hey. Spellcheck is boring.)

    Aw, you are so sweet!
    I love the meaning behind this quote! CS Lewis had such a gift for creating profound messages within his stories. I must admit, though I love his works, I have never read the Space Trilogy! HORRORS!

  5. Great quote! I struggle with trusting God, too. It’s really hard sometimes. But His plans are ALWAYS so much better than mine.
    And I’d have to agree that spellcheck is boring. 😉
