A Glimpse of Starlight

I’m super excited today, dear readers, because this tag is just so storming amazing.  The wonderful Lalaithiel tagged me with this 30 Song Challenge (which she created—isn’t that cool?), where you have to answer each question with the appropriate song. I love, love, love music, so I couldn’t wait to do this. Oh, and, aherm, I couldn’t just limit it to one song, so I picked up to three for each question. *sheepish grin* Are you ready for the awesomeness?

1. Your favorite song

Songs I’m obsessed with change often, but here are some that stay pretty constant:

Come Home (Jon Foreman) / Sound of Silence (Celtic Thunder) / To All the Poets (Andrew Peterson)

2. Your least favorite song

I don’t have a least favorite song, but I do really dislike Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) (Chris Tomlin). The whole “my chains are gone” part just ruins the song (which I otherwise love). I mean, “like a flood your mercy reigns”? How on earth does a flood reign? This conjures up images of a riverbank bowing before a foam-crowned river. The lyrics embody everything I dislike about modern Christian music. *end of rant*

3. A song that makes you happy

You Don’t Know How Beautiful You Are (Jon Foreman) / O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus (Selah) / Don’t Give Up (You Are Loved) (Josh Groban)

4. A song that makes you sad

Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (Les Miserables) /  The Breaking of the Fellowship (Howard Shore) / I Will Carry You (Audrey’s Song) (Selah)

5. A song that reminds you of someone

Letters from War (Mark Shultz) / Many Roads (Andrew Peterson) / Flawless (MercyMe)

6. A song that reminds you of somewhere

Off the Map (Mark Shultz)—I couldn’t find a youtube video of this one; it’s from his debut instrumental album, Renaissance / This is Home (Switchfoot)

7. A song that reminds you of a certain event

Nothing Is Wasted (Jason Gray) / While I’m Waiting (John Waller) / The Shadow Proves the Sunshine (Switchfoot)

8. A song that you know all the words to

Basically all of these songs. Some of the first that come to mind are:

9. A song that you can dance to

Joy of the Lord (Rend Collective) / Praise You With the Dance (Casting Crowns)—fitting, huh? / Brave (Sara Bareilles)

10. A song that makes you fall asleep

I’m taking this in a positive light—as in, songs that are soothing and comforting, not boring:

Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring (Bach) / The Voice of Jesus (Andrew Peterson)

11. A song from your favorite band

At least it specifies “band,” so I can’t include artists, or else I’d never be able to pick.

12. A song from a band you hate

I don’t listen to bands that I hate. I can’t even think of a band I hate. xP

13. A song that is a guilty pleasure

Centuries (Fall Out Boy) because I don’t really agree with the worldview expressed in it, and it just doesn’t sound like a “good” song, but I really love it.

14. A song that no one would expect you to love

I’m not really sure what people expect me to love—actually, that’d be a fun thing to put in the comments: Which songs on here surprised you? But if I had to guess:

Not Gonna Die (Skillet) / Cassie (Flyleaf) / Into the Fire (Bruce Springsteen)

15. A song that describes you

I actually want to do a separate post on this sometime—songs (and maybe even books and other media) that describe me. There are so many songs that fit me well. For now, here’s three:

16. A song that you used to love but now hate

I don’t hate any songs, but some that I’ve overdone are:

I don’t really listen to the radio that much, but:

Greater (MercyMe) / Roar (Katy Perry)—other people put this on at the gym; I don’t choose to listen to this myself. Just a disclaimer.

We Will Survive (Andrew Peterson) / I Am (Theocracy)—or any Theocracy song, really / Take This City (Everfound)

19. A song from your favorite album

Come Back Soon (Light for the Lost Boy, Andrew Peterson) / Best is Yet to Come (Until We Have Faces, RED) / Stars (Les Miserables)—I’m assuming musicals count

20. A song that you listen to when you’re angry

Let It Burn (RED) / This Means War (Petra) /Brave (Josh Groban)

21. A song that you listen to when you’re happy

I seriously cannot think of anything else. Huh.

25. A song that makes you laugh

Och. That’s hard to remember. If I could guess:
