{Miscellaneous Mondays} Quote Collection: Love

I was blown away by the amount of quotes on love I found in my collections. I found a pretty fair amount on faith and hope for the previous two weeks, but the topic of love trumped all—which is biblical, so I guess that’s a good thing. Also, I didn’t plan this, but I realized I’m posting this the week of Valentine’s Day. I love coincidences like that (and there’s that word popping up!). It’s probably the fault of my brain-keeper—an early V-Day gift from her, perhaps?

Anyway. There were so many quotes I wanted to include, but I couldn’t list them all. Perhaps I’ll do a Quote Collection 2.0 sometime and share the rest. Until then, enjoy these gems I’ve found, and let me know your favorites! Your kind, enthusiastic comments about this have made it so much fun.

{The greatest of all romances}

To fall in love with God is the greatest of all romances—to seek Him the greatest of all adventures, to find Him the greatest human achievement.

~ St. Augustine’s Confessions

{A life without love …}

I had imagined it a lofty place, this artist’s solitude, this cozy corner where the Muse and I lingered and plotted and schemed, creating our little world of words. But it was only an empty room after all, with nothing in it. Nothing but my own cloistered and well-protected self.

So when had I turned the final bolt and stopped living? When had I chosen simply to go through the motions? Because I was as dead as Lenny when he came home from the war, and I didn’t even know when I had died. I didn’t know whether it had been a sudden death or a long drawn-out dying. I knew only that I was no longer alive, because what was life without love?

~ Ann Tatlock’s Every Secret Thing

{No matter the cost}

This was the Great Romance. To love at any cost.

 ~ Ted Dekker’s Circle Series

{Do you keep on loving?}

Vin folded up the paper. “And you keep this picture still? After … what she did to you?”

… “Yes, I keep the flower,” Kelsier said. “I’m not really sure why. But … do you stop loving someone just because they betray you? I don’t think so. That’s what makes the betrayal hurt so much—pain, frustration, anger … and I still loved her. I still do.”

“How?” Vin asked. “How can you? And, how can you possibly trust people? Didn’t you learn from what she did to you?”

Kelsier shrugged. “I think … I think given the choice between loving Mare—betrayal included—and never knowing her, I’d chose love. I risked, and I lost, but the risk was still worth it.”

~ Brandon Sanderon’s Mistborn: The Final Empire

{You are loved}

Over and over again he said, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” And over and over again, Nia said, ” We love you, we love you.”

~ Andrew Peterson’s North! Or Be Eaten

{Lost love}

“[Y]ou do not fail in obedience through lack of love, but have lost love because you never attempted obedience.”

~ C. S. Lewis’ That Hideous Strength

{Hopeless love}

“I’ll never tell you to stop loving. You see, I believe in hopeless love. Oh yes. I believe in it with all my heart, though you may discount the heart of an old nanny like me. For real love brings pain. Real love means sacrifices and hurts and all the thousand shocks of life. But it also means beauty, true beauty.”

~ Anne Elisabeth Stengl’s Moonblood

{Love others as you love yourself …}

It would probably be all right if we’d love our neighbor as we love ourselves, but could they stand that much affection?

~ Unknown

{Romance for a lifetime}

Get into the habit of saying, “Speak, Lord,” and life will become a romance.

~ Oswald Chambers

I’ll post a bit more on love on Sunday, but for now, savor these words of truth above. You are loved. Never forget it, never doubt it, never take it for granted.

I hope you have a lovely week!
