Prayers for Paris

To those in Paris who have lost loved ones or their sense of security or hope—

And to those in the rest of the world who hurt for them and are struggling to find hope as well—

This is my song to you:

After the last tear falls …

After the last siren wails …

After the last bullet tears through flesh and bone …

In the end, the end is

Oceans and oceans

Of love and love again

We’ll see how the tears that have fallen

Were caught in the palms

Of the Giver of love and the Lover of all

And we’ll look back on these tears as old tales

‘Cause after the last tear falls

There is love

~

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

  • 1 John 4:4

When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
he brought me into a spacious place.
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
I look in triumph on my enemies.
