Why do you think you ache
as you stare at the stars?
Why do you think you feel
like you’re always behind bars?
Why do you think you ache
at the sound of birdsong?
Why do you think you feel
like something’s just wrong?
Why do you think you ache
lying silent on your bed?
Why do you think you feel
like you’re never fully fed?
Why do you think you ache
for something you can’t explain?
Why do you think you feel
like you weren’t made for pain?
Why do you think you ache
for a home, belonging place?
Why do you think you feel
like you’re on a constant chase?
Why won’t you admit that
there has to be something more?
Why won’t you realize the
emptiness of what you’re living for?
Why won’t you open your eyes
to heaven’s touch upon this land?
Why won’t you recognize
the dust of angels in the sand?
Why is it so hard for us
to see glory in the skies?
Why do we keep refusing
to simply open up our eyes?
Why can’t we seem to grasp
His fingertips on our skin?
Why won’t we acknowledge
the mystery we’re living in?
