Called

I wrote this poem over a year ago, but it’s still one of my favorites.

We are called

Called to be last and also called first

Called to defy our cravings but to quench their thirst

Called to die but to live life fully

To stay in the present and hope for eternity

Called to be courageous and called to be meek

Called to be strong only after we’re weak

We are called

Called to be foolish and called to be wise

Called to be buried so that we can rise

Called to lose all before we can gain

Called to let things go but also to save

Called to see clearly and called to be blind

Called to open our hearts and guard our minds

 We are called

Called to deny ourselves but enjoy His gifts

Called to be silent and yet share with our lips

Called to mourn and called to rejoice

Called to lower our pride and raise our voice

Called to be gentle like doves and crafty as foxes

Called to lead lives portraying grand paradoxes

He is calling.

Will you follow the call?
