Empty Halls in Empty Mountains

My The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies parody on the Les Miserables song, “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables”.

There’s a grief that can’t be spoken

There’s a pain goes on and on

Empty halls in empty mountains

Now my friends are dead and gone

Here they battled goblins

Here it was they faced Smaug’s flame

Here they sang about their homeland

And to their homeland finally came

From the table in the Shire

They could see the throne restored

And they rose with voices ringing

I can hear them now!

The very words that they had sung

Became their last communion

On the Lonely Mountain snowed upon

Oh my friends, my friends, forgive me

That I live and you are gone

There’s a grief that can’t be spoken

There’s a pain goes on and on

Phantom faces ‘neath the starlight

Phantom shadows in Erebor

Empty halls in empty mountains

Where my friends will feast no more

Oh my friends, my friends, don’t ask me

What your sacrifice was for

Empty halls in empty mountains

Where my friends will sing no more

This was amazing, Abby. I wonder, was I the only one to sing it instead of reading it?

  3. Dearest Abby,

Thank you so much for your blog. It is so nice to hear from you. We rarely hear from the rest of the family. As you know, my favorite television programs are “Little House on the Prairie” and “Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman”.

    All my love,
