Wandering

A sonnet I wrote a few months ago for a creative writing class.

The darkness deepens, and the walls close in

Chains choke down cold about my aching wrists,

And I shake before this ensnaring sin

I wander, wander, lost in blinding mists

How did I fall so far, oh tell me how!

One moment I was awash in His light,

Then covered in shame as I broke my vow

I wander, wander, locked in deepest night

I need mercy, I must beg Him—but no!

How could He look down, favor fickle me

I fall too often, there could be no hope

I wander, wander, no way to be free

He banishes the mists, shatters the dark

He rescues, rescues, gives grace to my heart
